Why a faucet should weigh more than you expect.

Why a faucet should weigh more than you expect.

A faucet is one of the few objects in the kitchen you touch every day. Its weight is not theatre; it is often the first clue to the metal inside, the cartridge quality, and the confidence of the casting.

Light faucets can look convincing in photographs, but they tend to reveal themselves at the handle. A better piece has a steadier rotation, a cleaner shutoff, and a body that does not flex when the water pressure changes.

Finish matters after the showroom moment. PVD, brushed steel, matte black, and rose gold all behave differently under hard water and daily wiping. The best finish is the one that can be cleaned without becoming precious.

When in doubt, hold the faucet before you choose it. Good hardware has a quiet density. It feels less like a fitting and more like a tool that has been made to stay.
